NEC Ships Its First Portable Projectors to Offer Real-Time Wireless Data Transmission

Press Release  |  Sep 13, 2002

New Projectors Offer Wired/Wireless LAN Connectivity, 3D Reform(TM) Horizontal, Vertical and Diagonal Keystone Correction, a Sealed Optical Unit, And Security Features to Deter Theft

ITASCA, Ill., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- NEC Solutions (America), Inc. today began shipping its most versatile mobile/desktop projector to date, the LT260, with two additional models based on the LT260 design, the LT220 and LT240, shipping October 1. The new projectors incorporate a variety of new technologies to give professionals enhanced presentation and collaborative communication abilities, including the pioneering NEC ImageXpress(TM) networking technology option.

The new LT200 Series projectors are the first to offer NEC ImageXpress(TM), providing the ability to communicate continuously and in real time from a PC to the projector through a wired LAN system using a 10 base or a wireless system via Wi-Fi 802.11b. The wireless option gives users the flexibility to communicate from a laptop placed anywhere in the room or to toggle between presentations on multiple laptops with the touch of a button. In addition to NEC ImageXpress, the new LT projectors' networking solutions allow users to perform online diagnostics by accessing the menu system for complete control of the projector from a remote location.

"The new LT200 Series projectors with NEC ImageXpress open the gateway to true collaborative meetings and information sharing -- and let professionals focus on the message they want to convey instead of fumbling with cables," said Bob Guentner, microportable and ultraportable projector product manager for NEC Solutions America, Visual Systems Division. "They also give users superior image quality backed by NEC's industry-leading service and support, including a three-year limited warranty."

The projectors are the first to feature NEC's exclusive 3D Reform(TM) technology with horizontal, vertical and diagonal keystone correction for perfectly square images even when projecting from unusual angles. The new projectors also feature a sealed optical unit for reduced maintenance costs in smoky, dusty or chalky environments.

The LT200 Series models also feature a number of security features to deter theft, including the ability to format a PCMCIA card as a security card to disable the projector to unauthorized users. Other security features include password protection, a lock slot, and optional ceiling mounts that feature security screws and attachments for locks.

All three DLP-based projectors weigh only 6.5 lbs. The LT260 provides a bright 2100 ANSI lumens along with XGA native resolution. The XGA resolution, 1600 ANSI lumen LT240 comes equipped with a short-throw lens for cart applications or smaller classrooms or conference rooms where the projector will be used close to the screen. And the LT220 offers value-conscious users a feature-rich 2000 ANSI lumen SVGA projector.

The new projectors feature superior image quality thanks to their 1300:1 contrast ratio and to NEC's exclusive VORTEX Technology Plus(TM) color management system. This technology provides the most comprehensive color management system on the market available today, including an sRGB setting, individual color adjustment and white balance correction.

The LT220, LT240 and LT260 are also environmentally friendly, with Eco- Mode(TM) technology to conserve lamp life when the full projector brightness isn't needed, and power consumption below 1 watt in standby mode.

Complete Service and Support Program
The LT220, LT240 and LT260 are backed by three years of NEC's industry- leading warranty program. InstaCare provides projector repair and return within three business days or replacement the next business day. InstaCare Xpress is available should a replacement projector be needed on the next flight out (fees and airline restrictions may apply) and TravelCare provides either repair and return or a temporary loaner projector (at a nominal fee) outside a user's home country. According to Pacific Media Associates' 2001 Large Display Reseller Survey, NEC ranked highest among all display manufacturers for its warranty and repair/return programs, as well as for its end-user support and knowledgeable, responsive support persons.

The estimated street prices of the new projectors are $2,395 for the LT220, $3,195 for the LT240 and $3,595 for the LT260. More information about NEC's new projectors is available at www.necvisualsystems.com or by calling (800) NEC-INFO.
