Global Leader in Projector Sales Launches its Brightest Ultraportable to Date
Epson's New PowerLite 5550C Raises the Bar for Ultraportable Projection
TORRANCE, Calif -- June 1, 1999--Epson America, Inc., the world leader in high-performance projectors, today unveiled the super bright, ultraportable PowerLite 5550C. Delivering 850 ANSI lumens through advanced lamp and LCD technologies, this SVGA projector is more powerful than its predecessor, the award-winning PowerLite 5550C. The PowerLite 5550C produces incredibly bright, finely detailed images and weighs just over nine pounds.
"The PowerLite 5550C sets a new standard for brightness in the ultraportable category," said Mark Pickard, product manager, projectors, Epson. "In continuing to add performance and value for our projector customers, Epson consistently pushes technology and design to new levels. With the PowerLite 5550C, we have created a superior ultraportable product and a superior value." Enhanced Ultraportable Performance
Epson's high-performance three-LCD projectors address all components of image quality, achieving high ratings in the critical areas of brightness, brightness distribution (illumination ratio), color saturation, color accuracy, and efficiency. The PowerLite
5550C is no exception. Weighing just over nine pounds, this powerful ultraportable produces a brilliant 850 ANSI lumens and features a 95% illumination ratio and 300:1 contrast ratio. Images projected with the PowerLite 5550C are vibrant, precise and detailed, and show no uneven "hot spots."
Two technical advancements contribute to the superior image quality of Epson's newest projector. The PowerLite 5550C utilizes a new long life (2000 hours) 120W UHE (ultra high efficiency) lamp, which comprises a 25% brightness improvement over its previous lamp technology. This efficiency ensures that the PowerLite 5550C will provide consistent high performance and reliability. Additionally, Epson has improved the aperture ratio of its LCDs, significantly boosting brightness by allowing more light to pass through each of the PowerLite 5550C's 1.4 million pixels. Legacy Features
The PowerLite 5550C features Epson's patented SizeWise(TM) resizing technology, giving the projector excellent versatility by allowing it to accept virtually every notebook resolution. As a result, the PowerLite 5550C keeps cost of ownership low and expandability of use high. SizeWise resizing technology allows for compatibility with XGA (1024 x 768) and VGA (640 x 480) resolutions with virtually no picture content loss.
Straightforward and easy to set up and use, the PowerLite 5550C allows presenters to get up-and-running quickly and easily. The control panel is located on the top of the projector and has contoured buttons for easy contact and manipulation and includes input select, volume and menu controls. For actively presenting on stage or from anywhere in a room, the infrared remote device provides added control and flexibility. The device includes source select, menu, volume, mute and a track pad for wireless mouse control. For incredible three-dimensional stereo sound, the PowerLite 5550C also includes an SRS 3D stereo system.
A Superior Value Out of the Box
The PowerLite 5550C will be available in June through authorized Pro AudioVisual dealers, National Distribution, Catalog and Direct PC dealers for $5,999 MSRP.
