Digital Projection International Takes Digital Cinema Another Significant Step Forward With First-Ever Commercial Demonstration Of A 2k x 1k Resolution Projector
KENNESAW, GA and MANCHESTER, U.K., (August 15, 2003) - Digital Projection International (DPI), an Emmy® Award-winning manufacturer of high-performance projection systems, announced it demonstrated the world's first digital cinema projector utilizing Texas Instruments' 2K x 1K resolution 3-chip DLP Cinema(tm) Digital Micromirror Device(tm) (DMD) this past week in Tokyo, Japan. DPI's projection system, the Digital Projection Cinema-branded cS25, is the first digital cinema projector to incorporate the new higher-resolution DMD's for use in commercial cinemas. The demonstration was arranged in conjunction with Digital Projection's Japanese cinema distributor, TOSHIBA DENKO, and was held at the Togeki Theatre in Ginza, Tokyo, Japan. The demonstration was met with rave reviews by those in attendance.
"We are extremely proud to have been involved in the two significant world firsts within the digital cinema market," said Brian Critchley, chief executive of Digital Projection International. "In December 2000, we sold and installed the first ever digital cinema projector and have followed this up with the world's first commercial demonstration of the DC2K unit in our cS25. It demonstrates that Digital Projection is committed to innovation and is leading the development of this significant marketplace-worldwide." DPI's Digital Projection Cinema-branded products-the integrated series (iS) and console series (cS)-employ the state-of-the-art in Texas Instruments DLP Cinema(tm) technology and bring the cinema community tremendous benefits with respect to improved image quality, reliability and maximizing return on investment.
"We are very pleased to be working with our joint-venture partners NEC Viewtechnology Ltd. and our Japanese distributor, TOSHIBA DENKO," said Critchley. "They have demonstrated the vision and commitment to continuously embrace the latest technology and offer their customers the world's best cinema images. They are committed to exploit the commercial potential in digital cinema, and Digital Projection is excited to play a key role in this important cinematic milestone."
