Gefen Unveils First Wireless HDTV Extender Prototype
Gefen's Laser-Based Wireless Technology Enables Sleek,Streamlined Home Theater Environments
The Wireless DVI Extender relies on a point-to-point laser connection, meaning the sender and receiver must be positioned facing each other in order to accurately receive the signal.Installation is a simple task:the sender unit connects to the DVI source, and the receiver unit connects to the extended DVI display.Sender and receiver are both powered by one 5-volt external power supply. When all the components are powered and properly positioned, high definition video is transmitted instantly, via laser, from source to display.
This initial version supports home theater systems that utilize DVI to transmit HD video in multiple resolutions up to 1080i and stereo audio utilizing RCA connectors.Subsequent versions plan to accommodate equipment that uses HDMI connectors.
To extend longer distances,Gefen offers a variety of other HDTV extenders that utilize different technologies that can be used with CAT-5 or multimode fiber optics cables to span hundreds of feet.
The Wireless DVI Extender ($1299)is expected to begin shipping in Q1 2005.Visit www.gefen.com for additional information on availability or to locate a dealer in your area.
