BenQ Launches New High-End Video Projector for Home Theater
Enthusiasts Who Demand the Highest Standard of Image Quality

Press Release  |  Jan 6, 2005

PE8720 Features DLP-based HD2+ DMD Chipset from Texas Instruments, an Ultra-High
5500:1 Contrast Ratio, and 8-Segment Color Wheel for Top Performance

LAS VEGAS (January 6, 2005) – BenQ today announced its new PE8720 digital home cinema projector that is designed for home theater enthusiasts who demand the highest standards of image quality as well as professional A/V installers who serve the CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association) market. Featuring the latest DLP™-based HD2+ DMD chipset from Texas Instruments, a unique Contrast Adjustment Technology (C.A.T.) that can boost the contrast ratio to an ultra-high level of 5500:1 and an 8-segment color wheel, the PE8720 represents another addition to BenQ's award-winning home cinema projector line.

Offering extraordinary high-definition (HD) display capabilities, the PE8720 utilizes professional deinterlacing video chipsets from Faroudja that dramatically sharpen projected images. A customized Cosina Lens has sealed optics and mechanisms to prevent light leakage, keep out dust and eliminate any "halo" effects around projected images. The PE8720 also provides a breakthrough in low-level noise output during normal operation.

PE8720 Specifications
The PE8720 digital home cinema projector offers the DLP™-based HD2+ DMD chipset from Texas Instruments, an ultra-high 5500:1 contrast ratio, an 8-segment color wheel that displays up to 16.7 million colors, a 16:9 aspect ratio, a high native WXGA resolution (1280 x 720) and brightness levels measuring 1000 ANSI lumens. The unit weighs approximately 20 pounds, and the casing dimensions are 19.4"(wide) x 15.5"(height) x 7.7"(deep). The unit includes BNCx5, RCA (video), S-Video, and component (RCAx3) connectors.

Available in early March, the PE8720 comes with an estimated street price of $10,999.
