Sony Introduces VPL-PX1, New Personal 8.8-Pound LCD Projector

ORLANDO-- June 10, 1999--INFOCOMM Booth #501 Sony Electronics is adding the Personal(tm) VPL-PX1 LCD projector to its family of LCD projectors. Designed for easy portability, the 8.8-pound LCD projector provides outstanding brightness (1,000 ANSI lumens), XGA native resolution, stability, durability and image quality.

"The VPL-PX1 is a lightweight, feature-rich projector ideal for mobile professionals, trainers and business travelers who regularly carry their presentation equipment with them, or for presenters who need to operate in various locations within their building."

The projector is housed in a metal coated plastic body that is extremely lightweight, yet tough and durable in design, making the easily portable unit rugged enough for frequent travel. For extra convenience, the unit also comes with a built-in carry handle.

According to Hoffman, Sony's optical system yields a uniform performance with almost no image degradation, even in the corners. It consists of fly-eye light integrators, a prism block, a short arc 120W UHP lamp, a high performance lens, and Sony-produced .9" polysilicon true XGA LCD panels. These combined elements provide 1024 x 768 resolution and 1,000 ANSI lumens of light output for bright and clear images, even in environments with ambient light.

Additionally, Auto Pixel Alignment (APA), a Sony-developed algorithm, was incorporated to make set-up effortless. By connecting a computer signal source and pressing the APA button on either the projector or the remote, the projector will optimally align the image pixels with the panel, without requiring complicated adjustments. Further, Advanced Scan Conversion (ASC) technology, using bilinear interpolation, provides excellent image quality for both lower and higher resolution signals scan converted to XGA resolution for display.

Acceptable signal formats for the VPL-PX1 are composite video, S video, component video (Y/R-Y/B-Y), RGB video, VGA, SVGA, SXGA, XGA and Macintosh(R) 16" mode signals, as well as signals with horizontal frequencies from 15 to 91kHz.

The VPL-PX1 has a zoom lens, built-in lens shutter and a feature for quick and easy height adjustment.
