RadioShack Goes Big With Small All-in-One DLP Home Theater System

Press Release  |  Jan 6, 2005

Cinego D-1000 Plug-and-Play Portable Theater Projector System is Affordable,
High-Quality Choice for People Who Want Big-Screen Experience
Without the Hassle or Cost of Large, Fixed-Based Devices

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RadioShack Corporation (NYSE:RSH) today announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas it will be offering a new plug-and-play portable home projector DVD theater system that enables people to easily and quickly transform virtually any room of their home into a big-screen experience. The system projects a rich video and robust stereo sound for DVD movies, and it can even be attached to any cable or satellite TV system or gaming console for a versatile multimedia wide-screen experience.

The Cinego D-1000 all-in-one home theater -- selected as a CES Best of Innovations 2005 Honoree -- combines Digital Light Processing (DLP) from Texas Instruments, an integrated DVD player and a high-quality sound system into one compact, affordable package. This small, but larger-than-life portable theater was made possible through RadioShack's ongoing initiative to identify, develop and market innovative technologies and products that are at the initial stages of adoption.

The Cinego D-1000 will be sold exclusively at select RadioShack stores in early 2005 with a MSRP of $1,249.99. In addition, several accessories will be offered to enhance the home theater experience, including easy-to-store roll- up projection screens ranging from 55-inches to as large as 106-inches, which eliminate the need for open wall space or a built-in screen.

"DLP technology enables the Cinego D-1000 projector to deliver clearer and crisper images at prices that are more affordable than other technologies and in a much smaller package size than previous projectors," said Don Carroll, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for RadioShack. "That's why this will quickly become the standard of excellence for the in-home theater experience. After all, it doesn't get much easier than placing a projector on a coffee table or shelf, plugging it in, loading a DVD movie or connecting it to the TV or gaming console and enjoying the bigger-than-life images projected in vivid colors and tones.

"This will prove to be another case-in-point of how RadioShack can take a remarkable new technology, combine it with an attractive design, leverage our manufacturing relationships, and then create a market for the product through our unmatched asset base of 7,000 stores and 35,000 knowledgeable sales associates," he said. "It's really a great example of how we are developing collaborative relationships with technology leaders, product designers and manufacturing resources to bring easy and affordable consumer electronic solutions to customers."
