PLUS Vision Corp. of America Introduces U7 Series of DLP Projectors

Press Release  |  Mar 9, 2005

At 3500 Lumens, These Are the Brightest Projectors under Seven Pounds

BEAVERTON, Ore. --(Business Wire)-- March 9, 2005 PLUS Vision Corporation of America, the leader in lightweight, mobile projector technology, today introduced the U7 Series of DLP(TM) projectors. PLUS has raised the performance bar once again for portable projector technology by adding three new projectors: the U7-132, U7-132h and the U7-137. Each of these units weighs fewer than seven pounds, making them ideal for people on the go. At 3500 lumens, these projectors are also great for boardroom, conference room or classroom use alike. The flagship of this projector series is the U7-137. It produces 3500 lumens of brightness with XGA (1024 x 768) resolution and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. It uses PLUS's new Advanced Color Wheel (ACW) which enhances color reproduction. PLUS Vision designed the 6.8 pound U7-137 with the versatility to be used as a conference room projector yet light enough to take on the road.

"Our customers have always recognized PLUS for its small, portable projectors," said S. Mark Hand, vice president, sales and marketing. "With our new U7 series of projectors, they will now be able to enjoy the benefits of using our high quality projectors in their boardrooms as well."

The U7-137 possesses leading-edge features including wireless LAN technologies to enable wireless presentations, wired network capability, CompactFlash card memory slot, and USB memory slot.

The standard CompactFlash card wireless LAN module eliminates the hassle with connecting cables. The wireless functionality allows several presenters to use the projector and give their presentations in sequence -- all from different computers, without changing seats or swapping cables. Users can switch control of the projector merely by using the Wireless Presenter software that is included with the U7-137. As a security measure, the U7-137 can also receive encrypted data using WEP standard wireless LAN encryption.

The built-in CompactFlash and USB ports also allows users to save images and PowerPoint(TM) presentations(1) that can be uploaded directly to the projector; giving users the ability to present without using a PC. The CompactFlash slot enables users to project data and images saved on PLUS's M series electronic whiteboards directly from the U7-137, enabling the presenter to immediately share written information with a larger audience or group.

With the built-in network functionality, the U7-137 can receive high speed network content directly to the projector. Additionally, the projector can be controlled by any PC connected to the network. Basic projector operations -- like power off and on, projector status, and current lamp status -- can be performed remotely using Internet Explorer(TM) or another web browser, making this a great tool for any IT team responsible for maintenance and support of digital projectors.

Rounding out the U7 series are the U7-132 (3000 lumens) and the U7-132h (3500 lumens). All U7 projectors include RS232 controls; manual and digital zoom; "Eco-Mode," which saves lamp hours; an on-screen presentation timer to ensure presentations stay on track; keystone correction; freeze frame; and password protection, an anti-theft deterrent that when activated makes the projector usable only when the user's secret password is entered.

The U7's offer support for the latest video standards including 480p, 576p 780p and 1080i High Definition imaging and allows for video input from sources including component (YCbCr, YPbPr), S-video and composite video. All U7 models include two data inputs, both DVI and RGB ports. Each of these projectors also comes standard with an output port for RGB, YCbCr, and YPbPr.

The top of the U7 projector body is equipped with an easy access lamp retraction port that makes it simple to change the lamp on the projector without taking it down from the ceiling or turning the projector over. The projectors also come with a sleek terminal cover that hides cable termination.

Pricing, Accessories and Availability
All U7s ship standard with all necessary accessories needed for effective presentations, including lightweight cables, a full-function remote control with built-in laser pointer and a soft carrying case for both the projector and accessories.

The U7-132 is currently shipping and is available with a street price of $2,995. The U7-132h and U7-137 will ship at the end of March 2005, and will be available with street prices of $3,495 and $3,995 respectively.

The U7 series of projectors come standard with PLUS Vision's comprehensive "peace-of-mind" three-year warranty, including all parts and labor.
