Electrohome Signs Three Year Contract To Supply Latest Projector Technology To Lucasfilm Ltd.
Kitchener, Ontario, Canada – (July 12, 1999)
– Electrohome Projection Systems, a leading developer of high performance
projection solutions, today announced a three-year, non-exclusive agreement with
Lucasfilm Ltd. to supply the latest projector technology for Lucasfilm's
production needs.
Lucasfilm used Electrohome projectors in the
post-production department for Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace, the much
anticipated prequel to Star Wars. The Lucasfilm team reviewed the film during
the mixing process and screened the film throughout the picture editing process
using Electrohome's VistaGRAPHXTM 8000 Roadie projector, part of
the company's projection line based on 3-chip XGA Digital Light ProcessingTM
(DLPTM) technology by Texas Instruments.
The Lucasfilm post-production team selected the
VistaGRAPHX model for its dependability, ease-of-use and the high quality
imagery offered by DLP technology. The ability to screen the film at a
moment's notice without any set-up time was invaluable to the editorial
decision-making process.
Though Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace
was shot on film, the movie was transferred to Digital Video tape where it
remained in the digital domain until the final prints were made.
"Editing the film digitally is more flexible
and efficient than traditional film editing," says Rick McCallum, Producer of
Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace. "Instead of waiting for a particular
sequence to be put together by film editors, we were able to view the cut on
tape at any time using Electrohome's projectors."
