Personal Experience
While I am not a home theater noob, my focus has been more on the audio side of the house due to space constraints in previous homes. When we built our new house, I carved out a modest, dedicated home theater space that is 100% light controlled and decided to invest in the full experience and go projection over large tv. I am moving from a 75" Samsung UN75HU8550 4k tv in my previous media room and also own 2 of there new 55" 4k HDR Q7F series sets in other areas. While I understood that getting the same brightness and contrast out of a projector for HDR content would be impossible, I researched and spoke with the experts to narrow down the list. At first, I was intent on a native 4k projector since I was accustomed to 4k panels for the past several years. However, after looking at products like the new Sony 285ES, I was left unimpressed with black levels and overall "pop" of HDR content (paired with a Stewart StudioTek 130), despite it still being an excellent picture. I decided that black levels and contrast were more important than true 4k. So, without actually seeing the 790R/RS540U in person, I felt confident with their reputation and other professional opinions to pull the trigger. All I can say is "Wow". I couldn't be more happy with the decision to go with JVC. The picture quality with very little tweaking is excellent and I can only imagine how good it will be once I have it professionally calibrated. I have it paired with a custom 119" Seymour Enlightor-Neo acoustically transparent screen and the image is stunning. Take the plunge and enjoy the excellent black levels and pop this projector is capable of producing.
