Has transformed movie night! Had a Benq10000 (DLP) and was quite satisfied even though it only extended to 110” on our 128” diag 16:9 screen, and even though it’s a 1:1 gain white version the picture was sharp, highly colorful and bright, just lacked size (a function of mounting distance 15’ fm screen and 1.6:1 zoom ratio).
Enter the JVC. Jaw-dropingly “WOW!!!” Contrast? Inky! Brightness? Thank God almost all our BluRay titles are in 3D, becasuse the slight brightness reduction means we don’t have to wear sunglasses! The X790 also fills our screen to its edges. Everyone says “it’s a “REAL” theater now. Couldn’t be happier. Okay, if it had an optical-feedback self calibration mode... might be a little more-so.
Love the calibrated pic-mode pre-sets and (waaay) extra brightness (high lamp mode) for HDR & 3D - in fact my wife thought 3D was hokey on our 60” Samsung 4K. She refused to watch UNTIL she “experienced” Avitar in our HT a-la the JVC. Now she’s a total fan! “Okay! I’ll admit, it’s totally worth having to wear the damn glasses!”
As so many other professional & user reviews have stated, at our first row’s 16’ ft viewing distance, the detail is stunning and doubt anyone could tell the difference between native and pixel-shifted 4K.
So far have never noticed any fan noise, even when projector’s on cool down with fan running but no audio. Literally whisper quiet. The illuminated control is much appreciated and “lighting” should be adopted for ALL HT remotes!
Ordered four sets of third-party 3D (IR & RF) glasses and they immediately synced to the JVC-dongle and worked flawlessly.
A couple mos earlier had updated to a full Dolby ATMOS / DTS:X 7:1:4 config by adding four Klipsch Premier 140’s (two powered by remote amps) for the effects, a Marantz SR8012 and SVS 16 Ultra. These were added to L/R Legacy Focus 20/20s (six 12” woofers between the pair) and matching Legacy center. The sides were replaced by Klipsch Premier ATMOS-certified dipoles. Two in-ceiling Legacy 8” coaxials are L/R rears.
Existing components of note are a Ceneova* 300W RMS/Ch 8-Ohms, and a Kenwood KA-1* amp, 4 Ch @ 150W RMS/Ch into 8-ohms, with both amps doubling into 4-ohms, and an Oppo BD103 for BluRay & Sony ES UDP-1000 for 4K discs.
* External amps both increase available power and permit the SR8012 to run cool, with only four of its internal amps being drawn upon.
The overall result is a fully transformed & updated theater that represents a great update investment!
None to date (one month and probably 20 hrs of viewing).
