1080p goes under $1,000
The Vivitek H1080FD and the Optoma HD20, both just announced, are the first 1080p home theater projectors to come to market under $1,000.
Press releases for both of these models have been posted on the home page. Review samples of both are scheduled to arrive in the next few days. We will get reviews done as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, for those who want to spend a lot more money, two new and unique 1080p projectors have just begun to ship recently. The Samsung A900 ($12,999) is Samsung's latest home theater model, developed out of a continuing collaboration between Samsung and Joe Kane.
Also, the first LED-based 1080p projector to come to market is the Vivitek H9080HD ($14,999). Most LED projectors are quite dim, but this one is rated at 800 lumens. If it delivers anywhere near that much, that is more than ample for dark room home theater.
We currently have both the Samsung A900 and the Vivitek H9080HD in house for review. It will be fascinating to see how these two premium priced models stack up.
