More on 3D and projector reviews...

We've posted two 3D articles and several reviews in the last few days. For inexpensive home theater, the Optoma HD66 is a hot little machine.

The Optoma HD66 is very bright, does native 720p in both 2D and 3D, and sells for only $699. If this sounds like it could be your first home theater projector, see the review here.

As far as 3D is concerned, read Bill Livolsi's thorough article, The 3D Renaissance, for an orientation to the whole concept of 3D technology. Meanwhile, Jeff Janas gets into the nuts and bolts of hooking up the NVIDIA 3D Vision System with the BenQ MP776ST. His experience has application to a wide range of 3D ready projectors.

If you want projectors for classroom use, we've got two new reviews, the Viewsonic PJD6221 and the BenQ MP772ST short throw unit.

I've got questions specifically for teachers and K-12 district AV cooordinators: What role do you see for 3D projection technology in the K-12 classroom? Is 3D capability an important factor in your planning and equipment selection? What obstacles do you face in moving ahead with 3D systems? Or conversely, do you not see a practical use for 3D in the classroom? Any comments you have would be welcome. Drop me a note here, and I will do my best to respond.

For consumers, 3D technology is a hot topic these days. We will be posting two more articles on 3D this week.

I hope that you will post a review for the runco Q750i or Q750d. It would be nice to see what they've done with L.E.D. backlighting. I hear that they're not as pricey as you would expect from them.

I'm waiting for native 1080p in both 2D and 3D...

I was going to buy Epson 8100 or 6100, but 3D is coming and it's maybe sad to not wait for 3D ready projector..

Nothing really interesting in CES 2010... Any news about 1080 and 3D ?

Yes!! Where are the 1080p 3D Front Projectors? Are they just hoping to sell us a 720p projector this year and a 1080p projector next year?

AFAIK 3D blu-ray players will support only 24fps 1080p and 60fps 720p movies, as does HDMI1.4. Presumably all these early "3D" projectors do NOT have HDMI1.4. Nor is it clear how they would play 24fps movies at 120Hz without yukky 3:2 pulldown (will the projector even do this?). 96Hz double flash is too slow. I certainly will wait until all this sorts itself out in a year or so. "3D-ready" has a bit of a fake air to it now, as it seems the technology has not addressed the new standards yet.
