Coming ... 1080p Shootout Update

We are making good progress on the entry level 1080p home theater projector shootout...

At this point it looks like we will have it posted by the end of next week. The plan is to include four units under $1000, which are the Acer H7531D, the Optoma HD20, the Vivitek H1081, and the Viewsonic Pro8200. In a separate group are models between $1000 and $1500, including the BenQ W1100 and W1200, the Epson 8350, and the Mitsubishi HC4000.

Seven of these projectors are in house and evaluations are nearly complete. One vendor has been late with the review sample, but we are assured it will arrive today. If it arrives today in working order we'll be able to do comparative assessments on that final unit during the first part of next week and include it in the overall report.

This has been quite a fascinating comparison, and we are looking forward to publishing our results as soon as possible.

Great timing! I'm in the market for a replacement projector right now, and I just put if off for a week to see your report. Hopefully this helps me make up my mind. Thanks for what you do

Awesome, I am intensely curious how some of these units compare! Is the hd20 aging at its price point? HC4000 vs. W1100/W1200?

On another note, I believe the 8350 is the only LCD projector in this comparison. Is there a reason LCD is disappearing at the low end or is it more a question of which companies are competing at this price point?

I am curious as to why we do not see reviews for new JVC projectors on Projector Central?

This shootout is coming at a great time for me. I need to replace my aging 720P Mitsu HC1500.

It has been killing me knowing that I am not getting the full potential of Blu-Rays on my PS3. I was planning on getting the Mitsu HC4000. We'll see if my plans are going to change.

hey brian, what do you mean that "It has been killing me knowing that I am not getting the full potential of Blu-Rays on my PS3."

i haven't seen any reviews that the PS3 is a lesser Blu-Ray player than others - can you or someone say where you have seen this info?

Testing '3D ability', especially with Video Games, would be useful.

The BenQ W1100 is supposed to be able to do that.
