JVC has announced that release of a firmware update promised earlier this fall to further advance the dynamic HDR feature in its its native 4K D-ILA consumer home theater projectors.
Firmware version 3.5 is now available as a free download for the DLA-RS1000/DLA-NX5, DLA-RS2000/DLA NX-7, and DLA-RS3000/DLA-NX9. As described in our earlier report, The update further refines the Frame Adapt HDR (Dynamic Tone Mapping) feature with a new Theater Optimizer function that customizes the projector's performance based on specifics of the installation provided by users. Improvements were also made to the user menu to promote ease of use.

This update is available at the following link, which includes the new software and load procedure (a USB drive is required), a description of changes the firmware addresses, an updated list of Sceen Adjustment code settings for specific screen materials, a link to new calibration software for those using JVC's custom calibration software, and, critically, a list of what menu items will be reset upon completion of the update. JVC warns that virtually all picture settings will be wiped to factory defaults by the update, and that calibrated settings should be carefully recorded to permit restoration after installation of the firmware.
