ZU720TST NPA side

Building on the 2020 release of the ProScene ZU720T that we reviewed in November and recognized in our ProjectorCentral 2020 Best of the Year Awards, Optoma has released a short-throw version, the ProScene ZU720TST.

Apart from one being a short-throw projector, the two share very similar specifications. Primary to both projectors' design is a permanently attached zoom lens in place of the detachable lens typically found in their respective lumen classes, which reduces cost: the ZU720T, with 7,500 ANSI lumens, retails for just $4,999, while its new short-throw sibling delivers 7,000 lumens and is priced at $5,999. The ZU720TST features a 1.26x motorized zoom with 0.75-0.95:1 throw ratio, and can project an image up to 300 inches diagonal at a screen distance of 15 feet 11 inches to 20 feet 2 inches. That's 15 to 25 feet closer than with the ZU720T. It has full motorized lens shift (±50% vertical and ±15% horizontal) and focus. You can see ZU720TST's throw range for specific image sizes with the ProjectorCentral SU720TST Projection Calculator).

The ZU720TST utilizes Optoma's DuraCore laser light source, a sealed IPX5-rated optical engine that is maintenance-free for up to 30,000 hours when operating in Eco mode. There's a dimmable brightness feature that takes the lumen output down to as low as 30% of full output, and with Extreme Black enabled, the projector touts has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It is rated for 'round the clock 24/7 operation, and supports 360 degree and portrait orientation.

The WUXGA (1920x1200) native resolution ZU720TST accepts 4K signals, is HDR compatible, and supports 3D. Features include built-in edge blending, warping and four-corner keystone correction (±40 degrees vertical and ±30 degrees horizontal). It's 19.13 x 6.06 x 14.8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 28 pounds. There are two HDMI inputs (one 2.0 for 4K signals) and an HDMI output, HDBaseT, LAN (RJ-45), RS-232, VGA, 3D Sync in and out, audio in and out, a wired IR in, two USB for power, and a 12V trigger.
