BenQ MX880UST User Reviews

Bought this unit in August 2013 as a refurb from Newegg.com. Use it in class almost every day. Total maybe 200-300 hours at the most. The distance required to project to the wall is awesome. Image quality is good and bright. The lack of HDMI and DVI connection is a small problem, but the VGA seems to be good enough for the job. The Ethernet connection seems useless, too slow.

Any Problems: Unit failed with a non documented LED code. Had to contact Benq support to get the real reason of the failure. The color wheel stopped working. I replaced the bulb, no improvement. The unit is less than a year old, but has no serial number printed on it, so not possible to get any warranty work done. Last time I ever purchase a Benq product. I haven't found any part list to be able to acquired the color wheel to fix it myself.

This is by far the shortest throw projector we have ever come across. When we explained to our IT specialist that for a few of our rooms we need projectors, however due to the poor room set up, the only sufficient amount of room for projector display was less than a meter, they recommended us the MX880UST. We had thought it was impossible to throw a projection of about 70 inch of diagonal display under 75cm of distance. The MX880UST certainly proved us wrong by throwing a much larger display than 70 inch at less than 75 CM. We were so satisfied with the results we commissioned the company to deliver 2 of each projector for each of our 9 classrooms with the odd dimension setup. The room is rather rectangular, therefore having a long room horizontally and not vertically. The picture quality is highly plausible for the fact that the projector is a data projector; however, it is commendable at how bright this projector really is. At highest output it will nearly blind all of us, and when all the lights are off, even with it being on Eco-mode seems a bit overwhelming. We were told that it is mainly due to its short distance throw that magnifies the lamp brightness, and therefore were advised to spare our eyes the strain and use it strictly on eco-mode. Overall the projector does extremely well for its expectations on our side and we hope it is serving well for others who are sharing the same product!
