Dream Vision DL500 Starlight User Reviews

Produces a warm, clean image. There's a small problem with the contrast in the darkest and brightest areas, though. Overall I'm very satisfied, but my lamp is about to burn out =(.

Any Problems: No RGB input (european only, I think). And why couldn't there be a regular vga input, instead of an adapter?

I have owned my StarLight for about 2 years now and never regretted it. Some of my friends have bought more expesive machines, with higher specs claimed by the manufacturers, but without the goods. The contrast and color accuracy are better than anything I have seen. I managed to convince one retailer to let me take home a Sharpvision XV-Z9000U recently as I was thinking of upgrading. I use a custom-built Home Theatre PC for DVD playback, and with the Sharp the colors were just horrible, after about 2 hours of trying to get that problem fixed I gave up and took it back. IMHO the Dreamvision is just unbeatable. Totally defies its specs.

Any Problems: Yes every other projector I look at seems like crap because I am used to my StarLight! Sorry but its true! Why no full review from Projector Central?

After comparing a range of projectors, the choice for me was easy. I couldn't (and haven't) found another SVGA DLP projector that can match the StarLight for colouration and image quality. Easy to set up - just plug it in and enjoy. Extremely happy customer. Highly recommended.

Any Problems: 4 out of 5 for features as it won't accept component input. The picture I get through RGB is so good I can hardly complain though.

I only got this projector recently because I got a really good deal where it was about half price due to it being a discontinued model. Being involved in computers for 7 years, I was use to using a products technical specifications as a primary means of measuring its performance. That was until I saw this projector in action. I sat through demos of various models of Sony, NEC, Optima, BenQ, and DreamVision brandname projectors, none of which I thought were worthy of my money. That was until I saw the DL 500 in action. Don't let the the SVGA resolution, 500:1 contrast ratio, or the 700 Lumen rating fool you. If I went on technical specifications of the projectors I had a demo of, this projector would have come in last, but in image clarity, depth of feild, and colour reproduction, this thing left all the others for dead. This was the only SVGA projector I ha a demo of, and it outpreformed the XGA based projectors by a long way. Even with a 120" display I couldn't make out the pixels until I was about 3' from the screen. With the price the DL 500 can be had for now, I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Any Problems: There have been rumors flying around regarding DreamVisions financial stability because of the involvement of the now defunct projector manufacturer Davis had with them. DreamVision have actually brought out Davis, so the rumors of DreamVisions financial stability are completely unfounded.
