Hi folks,
We are excited to announce the launch of our new DVD Store, which you can access via the button on the left. We call it the Videophile's Ultimate DVD Collection because it has been stocked with titles that are collectible for one of several reasons. Some have been selected simply for their outstanding video quality. Movies like Batman, Lord of the Rings, The Fifth Element, T2, and Shrek look beautiful when blown up and projected onto a 120" diagonal screen. DVDs featuring uniquely outstanding video quality are presented in two groups—those in 16:9 format, and those in formats wider than 16:9. These titles will let you experience the best video images your home theater is capable of delivering, this side of HDTV.
Then we have the Collectible Classics, of which Casablanca is the supreme example. Ranked by the American Film Institute as the second best American film ever made, Casablanca is a timeless romantic drama that people watch over and over again. What is the Number One film of all time, you ask? Actually, we'll do one better than that—just click here for the American Film Institute's Top 100. (Okay, in reality there are only 99 listed. Missing at position No. 90 is Al Jolson's The Jazz Singer from 1927 which is not yet available on DVD. And The African Queen is presented but not hotlinked due to unavailability. Amazingly, 98 of the Top 100 American films of all time are currently available on DVD through Amazon.)
Yet there are many other collectible classics, many of which are in screen-filling 16:9 format—Rio Bravo, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Psycho, Out of Africa, Raging Bull, The Godfather, and the latest cult classic Sideways, to name a few. Here is the full list.
Finally, those looking for the best deals will want to check out the Bargain Bin which features over 120 classic and collectible titles for under $12.
Many regular readers of ProjectorCentral have written to ask how they can make a donation or support the site. Buying DVDs from Amazon through our DVD Store is the ideal way to do it—you end up with a great collection of DVDs, and we earn a referral fee for featuring these products. Though it is certainly not mandatory, if you are a regular user of our site we would greatly appreciate your contribution in the form of ordering a few DVDs from time to time to help us offset the operations and bandwidth costs.
So if you need the AVIA or Digital Video Essentials calibration discs, order them here. And if you do not yet have your own copy of the incredible new widescreen 16:9 format Eagles Farewell Tour, do not wait another minute to place your order. I played it at a party last weekend and everyone was mesmerized. Believe it or not, this new DVD blows away Hell Freezes Over. It eliminates the chit chat on the front end, and delivers over 2 1/2 hours of live performance time in crystal clear video with amazing shadow detail.
We will be adding another 200 titles to the store over the next few weeks. If you have a favorite that we have overlooked, please let us know by dropping an email to comments@projectorcentral.com.
Thank you for using ProjectorCentral,
Evan Powell
