The LPX 500 does exactly what it claims to do. It provides excellent colour rendering with adequate black levels. It makes watching movies, an exciting experience.

I thought the Sony HS10 was an excellent projector until i saw this. Better detail and black level and much quieter, all with the added benefit of Faroudja!

Any Problems: None. The refocusing is a slight annoyance but nothing major.

A excellent product, the images are sharp and skin tones and colours are very natural. Worth the extra money over models such as the Sony HS10. Very quiet fan noise, not noticeable.

Any Problems: No auto or electronic focus control, could be a problem if mounted on a high ceiling?

Amazing pictures at this price point! Reproduced DVDs well but a huge WOW when switched to HD Net via Direct TV Hughes HIRD-E86 receiver! I like the ablity to increase blackness levels to meet the rooms needs and it gets very true black levels. Using a 100" DaLite high contrast DaMat screen and it is a perfect marriage. A GREAT purchase at this price!!!

Any Problems: Every time you use lens cap it requires manual refocus, An annoying engineering flaw but on a table mount not a problem. May be a problem on ceiling mount.

Excellent video projector ! Even after one month, I still appreciate very much the quality of the image and the realism of DVD films I project on screen. I work on PC (XP professional) and read the DVD through the DVD player I have on it. Very good contrast, very neutral and natural colours! Images are very nice on a two metres long screen. My PC makes much more noise than the Yamaha LPX-500... What about the dark side... As said by another owner, when you put the cap on the front lens you modify slightly the focus ring adjusted before. The projector is also very sensitive to the warmth. That means you have to switch off ONLY after the fan stops. If, by mistake, someone switches it off before the fan stops or during the projection, than the machine will stay in alarm, with red LEDs, and you can't project anymore. This phenomena occurs even when you try to switch on the day after ! Red LEDs seem to indicate that the lamp is broken. In this case, the only way to carry on is to switch on several times and finally the projector will work. An important hot stream comes out of the front air exhaust vent, going to the left, when you are looking the machine, try to avoid that people sit down just in this uncomfortable stream. Enjoy your new acquisition ! I don't regret my purchase !

The best picture in this price

Great projector with superb picture and almost no fan noise. Only problem is that when the projector is mounted upsidedown on a shelf you got some serious problem to adjust the focus and zoom. Attaching the lens cap is also a problem, because when you attach it you will move the focus ring. After using the projector about 50h I still highly recommend it.
